Feminism is life-changing.
I am now in my second year in high school, and we are discussing texts in English class with a feminist lens. When I heard about this when I was in first year, I felt excited because this was new to me. I knew that I am going to have fun in second year. I never heard of the word “feminism” or any term related to it until I was in my first year in high school. When second year came, I became excited. English is stressful, but I get to see the world in a new perspective.
Since I’ve been reading with a feminist lens, my point of view on certain things have changed. Learning about the perspective of the women in our reading selections changed my point of view on the world; the society we are all in. Everyone thinks that women are weak, sensitive, and powerless beings, while men rule the world. Feminism doesn’t make me mad at men and the rest of the world, though. It just opened my eyes to what women are experiencing, and what other women are doing to break the gender prejudice. It made me see the women who continue to suffer gender prejudice and the women who fight it. It made me truly appreciate women in general.
I should really be doing my English extra credit task now. I am to make a review of the play “Trifles” by Susan Glaspell. Sine I did a feminist reading of this, I was inspired to make this post. Now, I am inspired to do the task.
